Nutrition for Chronic Conditions

This page contains a brief overview of some considerations for using food as medicine.

My Take on Nutrition

My perspective on this topic is unique. You won’t find a cookie-cutter “low histamine diet” suggestion here. Following internet lists of “no” foods is a dangerous slippery slope.

I believe that a nutrition plan ALWAYS needs to be customized to the individual. We typically factor in prior tests and labs, patient personal experience, gut health and absorption, energy level, socioeconomic resources, family size and needs, geographical location and culture, symptoms etc. into creating an individualized plan.

I think that an approach that focuses on BRINGING IN healing nutrients is more helpful than a gloomy perspective eliminating foods and creating negative energy around others.

My professional training, review of the scientific literature and observation of patterns in hundreds of patients with mast cell sensitivities, dysautonomia, hypermobility spectrum disorders, CIRS from mold exposure, post-covid issues and other inflammatory conditions has led me to focus on a “low-toxin” nutritional approach as a generalized framework to aim for. Whether individuals avoid things like histamine and oxalates, for example, is very dependent on the case.

If patients don’t have a lot of food options to start with, we certainly don’t make things more restrictive. Typically, once we’re able to get some toxins and parasites out of the system and help the autonomic nervous system re-calibrate, then we can expand the dietary options substantially.

If you’re not open to this type of approach or don’t find it physically possible, don’t worry, my work in this arena is customized to you and your goals, unique factors and needs.
