CranioBiotic Technique (CBT)

What is CBT?

CranioBiotic Technique (CBT) is a natural process that taps into the body’s innate ability to self-heal. CBT was developed by Dr. Tony Smith and utilizes muscle testing and neurovascular reflex points to help guide the immune system into restoration of homeostasis. This revolutionary, patented technique is the culmination of Dr. Smith’s 25 years of clinical experience and his passionate research of many effective healing methods. The technique includes evaluation and treatment of viruses, bacterial infections, gastrointestinal issues, allergies, and other health stressors that create barriers to healing.

CBT does not diagnose or treat “disease” but instead works to help the brain to recognize and reprogram its systems to be in-tune with underlying issues that can lead to health conditions and disease. Many of these root issues trigger symptoms which are often dismissed by mainstream medicine or labeled as things like fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, autoimmune conditions, mast cell activation disease, dysautonomia, ADHD, etc. This approach is gentle, noninvasive, and is typically performed over 1-2 total in-office sessions. CBT is a very practical option for patients who have environmental sensitivities and a poor tolerance to certain foods, herbal supplements, and medications, as it does not require supplementation of different products to be successful.

How Does CBT Work?

CBT is based on the concept that the autonomic nervous system sometimes has difficulty with accurately identifying and correcting underlying health issues, often as the result of stress and past emotional trauma. Muscle response testing helps provide feedback from the body about any health stressors (such as toxins, allergens, pathogenic organisms, and structural/physiological dysfunctions) that still need to be addressed.

This information can then be relayed to the brain from gentle stimulation of specific neurovascular reflex points on the head and upper body. The brain can then correct the issue naturally once it accurately recognizes the health stressor impacting the system. This process is often referred to as “turning up the lights” for the brain and nervous system.

When the body is burdened by high levels of inflammation from multiple health stressors (which is typical of most patients with chronic ailments), the nervous system can be overwhelmed and stuck in patterns that perpetuate fight or fight and freeze responses. However, once the autonomic nervous system is able to perform “triage” and determine priorities, these root issues can be corrected and resolved naturally, in most cases without the need for invasive medications/supplements or procedures.

CBT is not a “cure” for diseases, but it can help the immune and nervous systems to be more in-tune with some of the health stressors that can lead to certain conditions. In some cases, CBT addresses root issues that are not revealed with conventional tests or labs, blood work, or physical examination.

An Example from Dr. Smith:

A grass allergy can create the disease of “sinusitis” of inflammation of the sinus cavities. These uncomfortable symptoms can usually be suppressed with antihistamine drugs. However, the cause of sinusitis is the brains erroneous “tagging” of grass as a dangerous substance. Once this misidentification is corrected, your symptoms can dissipate, and your sinuses can regain their normal, healthy function.

What Conditions Would Benefit From CBT?

CBT is an excellent tool for patients with mast cell activation disease (MCAS), dysautonomia/POTS, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, anxiety/depression, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, autoimmune conditions, eosinophilic esophagitis, acid reflux, hypothyroidism, allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, skin issues such as urticaria and eczema, sinusitis, asthma, myalgic encephalitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), fibromyalgia, gastroparesis, thyroid issues, hormonal imbalances and conditions such as polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), migraines, Chiari malformation, intracranial pressure issues, Lyme disease and other chronic bacterial infections, chronic inflammatory response syndrome (CIRS) from mold or other biotoxins, chronic viral infections like Epstein-Barr, hereditary angioedema, multiple chemical sensitivity, and much more.

What does CranioBiotic Technique Look Like in the Clinic?

Individuals interested in trying CBT through Origin Wellness first sign up a for a Comprehensive (90-minute) Wellness Evaluation which includes the CBT evaluation and treatment during the initial session. Occasionally, some complex patients with multiple root issues will require a second session of CBT at a later date as part of a 60-minute wellness visit, and some patients also opt to return annually for a regular CBT screening.

Dehydration and oral steroids can influence CBT and should be discussed prior to testing.

CBT is utilized as part of the in-person visit but cannot be conducted via telehealth.

Can Anyone Try CBT?

CBT does not use force and is gentle and pain-free. Individuals with disabilities, infants/children, and older adults can be easily evaluated and treated. Individuals who are pregnant can also try CBT, though practitioners utilize a modified approach during pregnancy in regard to the abdominal neurovascular reflex points.
